PLEASE BE CAREFUL: Do Not Reply to Scam Emails

Several people have reported receiving scam emails.

Fake emails might:
– claim to be from GBC staff, or from people who are famous or have inherited a fortune, or offer help with investment or to make a donation

– look like an email from GBC staff. (For example: name@gbc.org.tw is correct BUT gbc.org.tw@ is fake.)

Scammers try to:
– trick people into downloading specific APPs, buying securities, or providing identity information
– build trust (building friendship or romance) and then betray that trust
– cheat people of small amounts of money or huge amounts

Scammers can:
– be connected to criminal organizations (that offer jobs in computing, then force people to be internet scammers, and give training in how to cheat people)
– get contact information from many places, such as Facebook or GBC website and bulletin (in which case, they know that you are Christian and might try to appeal to you as a Christian).

To avoid being cheated, please be aware. Do not reply to this type of email and advise others to do the same.
